The Writer in Me
It made my life make some sense, the writing of poems and short stories, as a child. It's turned out that paper was a good listener in the difficult days of losing a parent, being "the strange" kid at school. The first public words were published as columns in a "Blues" magazine, and yes, it was all about the blues. Until moving to Portugal every word was written in Dutch, as was the first book "Braakland" about our first year in this beautiful country.
Now I'm also writing in a non-native language, aware of making some mistakes, but with dictionaries and the internet most expressions don't get lost in translation. The "bluezy" feeling however will be a part of my poems and stories, nowadays as words on a screen.
My latest project is one in where I try to describe the unidentifiable beauty in little things and events that are sometimes seen as negative consequences of modern society. And no, I'm not afraid to show a little bit of my sarcasm and sometimes ironic view on the facts of life.
Writing in Dutch
Columns in het Nederlands
Over de emigratie naar Portugal, over de samenleving en politiek in dat rare landje waar ik geboren ben en alle andere onderwerpen waarover ik me schijn druk te maken.
Een boekje met korte verhalen over ervaringen als emigrant. Anekdotes over ontmoetingen, gewoontes en eigenaardigheden in het rurale hart van Portugal. Braakland - Alqueidao - is het Portugese dorpje waarin onze "casa" op een eenzame staat.

Writing in English
At a certain age you start to see the beauty in little things, events, conversations and stories that didn't seem relevant when you were younger. I try to write about them, try to explain why there's beauty in all, although most of the times the reason stays unidentifiable.
English is not my native language, but still... here I am, writing, singing badly, making video's in language in which I'm communicating the most lately. From this day on I will try to translate all my dutch expressions of anger, depression, irony and mistakes. Don't be scared, embrace the depressing times, there's always a road, if not, we'll make one!
Poems and Lyrics
I'm not a singer, not a guitar player either, but sometimes written lyrics have to be sung. Most video's are recorded in the Bluesbarn Studio with workshop-made instruments.
